Present and Future

The Byzantine Fresco Chapel is a beloved presence on the Menil campus. Hundreds of thousands of people have visited this sacred site since its opening in 1997. The frescoes it holds, and in whose honor the Chapel was originally constructed, will be returned to their home country of Cyprus following the expiration of a loan agreement between the Menil Foundation and the Orthodox Church of Cyprus in February 2012.
 
The Menil is currently exploring options for the Chapel’s continued use within the context of the Menil campus master site plan so that it may continue to serve as a resource for the larger Houston community.
